Latham & Watkins advised Sinochem International Pte. Ltd. on its acquisition of a stake in Jiangsu Sinogchem Technology. Chemical and rubber manufacturer Sinochem now controls 40% of Jiangsu, and plans to take over 61% of the company, costing approximately $450 million. Latham’s HK partner Cathy Yeung led the team advising Sinchem. Jiangsu was represented by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Mayer Brown JSM Advises MIE Holdings
Mayer Brown JSM advised MIE Holdings Corp. on its acquisition of Sino Gas & Energy. Sino Gas was worth $100 million to MIE Holdings Corp. Partners Xiangyang Ge and Jeckle Chiu led the Mayer Brown team. Sino was advised by Allen & Overy, with partners Peter Wilks, Matthias Voss and Bernardine Lam leading the way.
Sonsini and Matsumoto Advise Micron in Billion Dollar Deal
Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Mori Hamada & Matsumoto advised Micron Technology on its $2.5 billion acquisition of Elpida Memory Inc. Elpida had recently filed for bankruptycy. Elpida was represented by Morrison & Foerester in the deal, but Davis Polk & Wardwell, as well as Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners, Ogawamachi Sogo Law Office and Kobayashi & Associates Law Office are advising Elpida on its bankruptcy proceeding. Micron’s financial advisor Goldman Sachs Group, is being advised by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
Paul Weiss and Clifford Chance Advise Marina Bay
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Clifford Chance advised Marina Bay Sands Pte. Ltd. on the refinancing of a $4 billion loan. DBS Bank Ltd., Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. Ltd., United Overseas Bank Ltd., and the Singapore Branch of Malayan Banking Bhd. acted as lenders for the loans and were advised by Lim Wei Ting from Singapore firm Allen & Gledhill.
Allen & Gledhill and Freehills Advise Frasers Centrepoint
Allen & Gledhill and Freehills advised Frasers Centerpoint Management Ltd. and Prudential Plc’s Asia Property Fund on a joint venture. They acquired Singapore’s Compass Point Shopping mall. The mall was valued at $410 million. Allen and Gledhill partners Jerry Koh, Chua bor Jern, Margaret Soh, and Lim Pek Bur advised Frasers, and Freehills’ Simon Taskunas advised Prudential.
Norton Rose Advise Petroliam Nasional Bhd.
Norton Rose advised Malaysian Petroliam Nasional Bhd, a.k.a. Petronas on its proposed $5.4 billion dollar acquisition of Canadian Progress Energy Resources Corp. Partners Chrysten Perry and Kevin Johnson are working on deal.
Cleary and Linklaters Advise Felda IPO
Linklaters and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton advised Felda Global Ventures on its $3.2 billion IPO on the Malaysian Stock Exchange. This was Asia’s largest IPO this year and second largest worldwide, next to Facebook. Partner Kevin Wong led the Linklaters team.
