Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison have strengthened their practice capabilities in China. This has been accomplished with the addition of Gary Li to the firm’s China Practice management team. Li, a corporate partner based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, concentrates on a large scale of China-related transactions. These transactions include private equity matters, public M&A transactions, Hong Kong and US capital markets, and debt financing. Li graduated in 1997 from Beijing University School of Law. Consequently, in 2011, he received his J.D. degree from UCLA School of Law. In September 2011, he joined the New York office of Paul Weiss, and transferred to the Hong Kong office in July 2007. He decided to practice law in New York, and is a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.

Li’s appointment has facilitated the firm's growth strategy, developing its team of Western-trained, Chinese speaking attorneys with specialization in Chinese law and international business transactions. The firm has offices in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing, New York, London, Washington and Wilmington.


Piyasena Perera, M&A specialist partner, left Magic Circle firm Allen & Overy to join Japanese Big Four, Anderson Mori & Tomotsune as a special foreign counsel. Perera, has experience in advising corporations, investment banks, hedge funds, and private equity firms on a a diverse range of transactions in the US and throughout Asia: including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, the PRC, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. Prior to his appointment at AMT, Perera spent over seven years in Allen & Overy’s Tokyo office  as a corporate finance partner, with a concentration on cross-border M&A, investment funds, general corporate, and security matters. Additionally, he spent two years as a counsel at life sciences specialist law firm, Fenwick & West. He also spent four years at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, and two years at Willkie Farr & Gallagher as an associate.


Pillsbury Winthrip Shaw Pittman LLP has named Woon-Wah Siu as the new office Managing Partner for its Shanghai office.  Ms. Siu who is a veteran corporate and securities lawyer, specializes in China-oriented capital markets transactions.  Additionally, Scott Kline, a Shanghai-based partner was chosen as the firm's China representative.
