UK Firms Bulk Up China Offices

Clifford Chance and Herbert Smith, along with a number of UK firms have promoted many new partners with respect to their China practices. Maggie Lo of Clifford Chance was made a partner in their Beijing office. She specializes in the banking and finance sectors and has advised many important Chinese and overseas financial institutions and borrowers with respect to their deals, development, acquisitions and projects. Clifford Chance Shanghai has also promoted partners Glen Ma, Kelly Gregory and Jean Thio. Ma is qualified in China and is also admitted to the New York bar. He has experience advising foreign and local clients with respect to foreign direct investments as well as other corporate matters. Gregory is admitted in Australia, and England & Wales. She has previously advised many transactions, specifically advising Airbus on a joint venture with PRC state-owned enterprises. Thio is qualified in New York and Singapore and specializes in capital market transactions. Building up China offices for UK firms has become a recent trend, as seen by Herbert Smith’s promotion of Melody Chen in Beijing. Chen is well experienced in advising with respect to corporate matters and securities regulations and is qualified to practice in New York, California and China.
